Pass the dam from the right side and canoe can be launched again just after passing the dam. The river is 10 meters wide and there is a drop of four meters. There is a small stretch of rapids at the beginning of the river. Late in the summer the water level in this point might be pretty low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><!--Polvijoen varrelle j\u00e4\u00e4 --> <strong>Toivion<\/strong> resting place is located by the River Polvijoki. The route can also be started by Toivio and at the end of the road there is a parking place and latrines.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-a89b3969 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"\/en\/melonta\/reittikartta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Route Map<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">POLVIJOKI &#8211; RIEMI\u00d6 &#8211; KAPEASALMI &#8211; LAAJALAHTI &#8211; SOURU (VOIKOSKI JA VOILAMPI)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>River Polvijoki flows into <strong>Lake Riemi\u00f6<\/strong>, jonka pohjoisrannalta l\u00f6ytyy Riemi\u00f6n taukopaikka (kartassa Riemi\u00f6 2). T\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 matka jatkuu <strong>Kapeasalmi <\/strong>and <strong>Laajalahti <\/strong>to <strong>Lake Souru<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the northern end of the lake there are the first rapids of the route: <strong>Voikoski<\/strong>. Voikoski is about 200 meters long, fast flowing and easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next comes <strong>Lake Voilampi<\/strong>with a small island at the other end. Behind this island you will find <strong>Souru,<\/strong> resting place, which need to\nbe approached from the RIGHT side of the island. Note that the resting place appears suddenly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BEWARE of the currents caused by the nearby Karikoski dams. Good current, plenty of water, no rocks; the road bridge can be passed under by stooping. Kissakoski rapids flow into <strong>Hyypi\u00f6nlahti bay of Lake Kyrsy\u00e4nj\u00e4rvi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The route continues from there towards the western shore of <strong>Kangassari island <\/strong>, almost directly north and from there along <strong>River Kyrsy\u00e4njoki<\/strong> which starts at the northern end of the lake.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-a89b3969 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"\/en\/melonta\/reittikartta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Route Map<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">KYRSY\u00c4NJOKI &#8211; RASAKANJOKI &#8211; TIKANJOKI &#8211; KAISLANEN &#8211; PY\u00d6NINJOKI &#8211; HALMEJ\u00c4RVI &#8211; PARTALA (HUTTULANLAHTI)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Kyrsy\u00e4njoki River has 200-300 meters long rapids with strong currents. It is recommended to use a cover for the canoe. At the end of the rapids the river makes an S-turn. There is a total drop of 1,9 meters in the river. At the end of the river there is <strong>Kyrsy\u00e4 <\/strong>resting place (with a shelter providing protection from inclement weather) on the left bank of the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route continues along the eastern shore of Lake Hattulainen northwards towards River Rasakanjoki. This river is 15-20 meters wide and has plenty of water and an easy current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><!-- Saavuttaessa --> <strong><!-- Pieni-M\u00e4ntyselle --><\/strong> <!--reitti jatkuu jyrk\u00e4sti oikealle.-->  Next coming <strong>River Tikanjoki &nbsp;<\/strong>has a drop of 3 meters with surges under the bridge. The river is swift, clear and easy to paddle along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tikanjoki River flows into <strong>Lake Kaislanen<\/strong>, which is a eutrophic lake surrounded in the west by swamp and in the south by farm fields.\nNext stretch of the route is 1,5 km long <strong>River Py\u00f6ninjoki<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>River Py\u00f6ninjoki flows into <strong>Lake Halmesj\u00e4rvi <\/strong>and comes to its end behind H\u00e4meensaari island. Pass the island from the left side, as the right-hand strait is overgrown with vegetation.<br><br>There is a new rest area on the left beach, <strong>Halmej\u00e4rvi. <\/strong>After Halmej\u00e4rvi, the route runs under Virransilta bridge, which is at the north-eastern corner and into angle of Huttulahti bay. There is a drop of 1,6 meters and a few rocks along the 300 meters stretch of rapids. It is recommended to use a cover for the canoe. Lohnankoski rapids flow into small Lake\n<strong>Myllylampi<\/strong>, which is overgrown with by vegetation but you can be paddle along it close to the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MYLLYLAMPI &#8211; KUHAKOSKI<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Next coming <strong>Kuhakoski <\/strong>rapids are short and fast with a drop of 1,6 meters and numerous rocks, so you need to take care. It is difficult to see it from upstream and we recommended that you go ashore and take a look over the rapids before shooting them.<br>You can also carry or lead in the river your canoe past the rapids by going ashore on right just before the bridge and take the canoe out of the gate down to the river, a distance of about 50 meters.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-a89b3969 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"\/en\/melonta\/reittikartta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Route Map<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">KUHAKOSKI &#8211; KUHAJ\u00c4RVI &#8211; HASULA (HASULANJOKI) &#8211; MYLLYLAMPI<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The last lake stretch before Sulkava begins now. Lake Kuhaj\u00e4rvi ends where <strong>Hasulanjoki<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00a0river begins; the river has a few rocks when the water is low. <strong>Hasula,<\/strong>&nbsp;the last resting place of the route, is situated on the right bank of Hasulanjoki river; it provided with a shelter. Next stretch is second <strong>small Lake Myllylampi<\/strong>, which is rather overgrown by vegetation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MYLLYLAMPI &#8211; TIITTALANKOSKI &#8211; UITONVIRTA &#8211; SULKAVA (VENEILYKESKUS KULKEMUS)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Now the route runs along the wide and quiet river. The short and swift <strong>Tiittalankoski <\/strong>rapids comes 1 km before Sulkava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The route runs along the impressive <strong>River Uitonvirta<\/strong> to the small village of <strong> Sulkava<\/strong>. The route ends at <strong>Kulkemus Boating Center<\/strong>, which is straight ahead of you on the right after bridge. The route includes a few less navigable sections. \n\nThe starting point of the Squirrel Route's expansion is the <strong>Konnusjoki <\/strong>lean-to. From there, we travel 3.3 km and arrive at the <strong>Konnusjoensuo<\/strong> rest area.\nSome 10 km from this point there is a mill (JU215) that you have to get around by carrying your canoe. Downstream the mill you will soon\npass under Highway 14. This is followed by a 4 km lake section on the Iso-Kontunen lake.\nNext you pass through the Kontunen rapids and enter the Syrj\u00e4-Keskonen lake.  Continue south for about 0,5 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right at the head of the river, there is Melasenkoski rapids. <strong>Melanen <\/strong>resting area is on the left immediately after the rapids.<br>After a narrow, river-like strait you come to the Melanen lake. Its close shores direct you straight to the Hirmujoki river. An early sign of Hirmukoski rapids ahead appears in the form of rocks used as foundations for the dam. <strong>The rapid is not paddleable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Upstream of Rapiontie road bridge (SU200) there is a stopover on the bank beneath a red building. Carry the canoe across the road.\nWATCH OUT FOR TRAFFIC! On the other side of the road, there is a narrow path that takes you back to the river (some 100 metres). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route, flanked by majestic banks, continues downstream in a leisurely fashion to the Murtonen lake. After some 1,5 km, the route passes under a road bridge over the Rekolansalmi strait and enters the <strong>Halmej\u00e4rvi lake.<\/strong> There is a new rest area on the left beach, Halmej\u00e4rvi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here the route now joins the existing Oravareitti route allowing you to continue to the <strong>Partala<\/strong> stopover\nlocated in the north-eastern corner of the Halmej\u00e4rvi lake. The distance from the route start, at Ala-Matkus, to this spot is around 36 km.<br>It also serves as a pick-up and supply point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Rapionsilta \u2013 Syrj\u00e4-Keskonen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can start canoeing from the bridge that crosses River Rapionjoki, and canoe across Lake Palosj\u00e4rvi and via River Palosjoki to Syrj\u00e4- Keskonen.
